65 residents of the Pines of Perinton apartment complex are being sheltered at the Perinton Community Center after an overnight fire hit the complex, destroying or damaging as many as 40 apartments.
They all had to be evacuated from their homes after the fire broke out about 3:00 Tuesday morning. RTS buses were brought in to keep them warm until the town moved them to the community center.
The Fairport Fire Department arrived to find smoke coming from the roofs and flames spreading to neighboring apartments. Because of the number of people involved, they declared a second and third alarm. No injuries were reported.
