Technology undid a purse snatcher Saturday night when Monroe County Deputies used the “Find My Phone” app and were lead directly to the thief.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies were called to the Chili Avenue Wegmans where a woman’s purse was stolen from her car while she was returning her grocery cart to the drop off. The “Find My Phone” app told deputies the victim’s iPhone was at 2710 Chili Avenue. Deputies went there and found a white pickup truck behind the Parkminster Presbyterian Church.
Owner Scott Singer was in the truck, and the phone and purse were stuffed under a shed about 20 yards away. The woman identified the purse as hers, and security video from Wegmans showed Singer breaking into her car.
Deputies say Stringer admitted stealing the purse, and also confessed to four burglaries around the west side of Monroe County. The Chili man is being held on $10,000 bail.
