Greece, state and federal officials cut a ribbon Monday signifying that Phase 1 of the Braddocks Bay Restoration Project is complete.
Now the Army Corps of Engineers moves on to Phase 2: building a new barrier beach to protect the bay and dredging out the navigation channel so boats of any size can actually use it again. Both projects are supposed to be finished by the end of the year.
Storms from Lake Ontario destroyed the barrier beach years ago, causing Braddocks Bay to fill with silt until it’s barely navigable. Nearly $8 million from the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative is paying for the restoration of the wetlands habitat and to reopen the bay for boating.
