A standoff in Penfield between Monroe County Deputies and a man threatening to harm himself lasted through Monday night into Tuesday morning, keeping roads blocked off near Route 250 and Sweet Corners Road.

People were unable to get in and out of their houses after a parole officer alerted the Sheriff’s Office that a man was making threatening statements.

Chief Deputy Mark Fowler did not specify exactly what was said, but deputies shut down the area and brought in both a SWAT Team and the Bomb Squad. Deputies said Monday night they were making progress in communicating with the man, but the standoff lasted through the night, keeping the neighborhood locked down.
