The Penfield School Board has issued a statement saying both Board Member William Yeager and two parents were in the wrong in a confrontation that ended the board meeting Tuesday night.
During a heated discussion in the public forum section of the meeting, Yeager referred to a parent as a “F—-n A—-le.” That parent then jumped onto the stage followed by another, as seen on video of the meeting.
The discussion was over a new antiracist curriculum being implemented in the Penfield district and several others across the county.
The school board says the conduct of both sides was unacceptable. Board President Mark Ellege said “I want to acknowledge that Mr. Yeager’s behavior was completely inappropriate. As a board, it’s our job to listen and to treat our community with respect.”
In turn, the district is asking the community to present their comments and concerns in a peaceful manner and to treat board members with respect.
This was board member Yeager’s last meeting. His term expires at the end of the month.
