A major discount shoe retailer is closing its remaining stores.
Fox Business and Reuters say Payless Shoes will close all of its 23-hundred stores when it files for bankruptcy later this month. That includes seven in the Rochester area: two in Greece, two in Henrietta, and one each in Irondequoit, Webster and Victor.
A search for a potential buyer failed, and sources told Reuters the company is preparing for liquidation.
This is a third major retailer to face going out of business in the last 12 months, including Toys R Us and Sears. Sears was able to find a last minute buyer.
