As the Trump Administration talks about cutting federal business regulations, a survey by Paychex finds state and local governments are stepping up on their own regulations.
Paychex CEO Martin Mucci says local governments are advancing worker protections as Trump pushes to cut back on Employer regulations.
The top five local regulations in front of cities and state legislatures are:
- Equal pay rules against gender-based pay discrimination.
- Paid family leave laws.
- Health care reform – mainly embedding provisions of the Affordable Care Act into state law.
- State Retirement Plans, creating individual state retirement programs in place of the discontinued Federal Workplace Savings Program.
- And legislation regulating Payroll Cards, which businesses are favoring to pay workers, especially those who don’t have access to traditional bank accounts.
