Parolee Kevin Quander is being held without bail after pleading “not guilty” Saturday morning to charges of first degree murder and robbery. Quander is accused of beating Liquor Store owner Charlotte Lahr to death on Thursday.

Police Chief Michael Ciminelli credits good police work for the arrest made in less than 24 hours. Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says Quander was just released on parole in January, seven weeks to the day before the murder. He’d been in prison because of a 2007 robbery.  Doorley says she’ll take the case directly to a grand jury.

The complaint filed against him in court sats Charlotte Lahr was repeatedly stabbed after waiting on Quander, who then picked up a bottle when the knife blade broke and beat her with it 39 times.  It was all caught on surveillance cameras installed after a previous robbery.
