Rochester Police have made an arrest in yesterday’s murder of a South Avenue liquor store owner.
Chief Michael Ciminelli says they’ve charged 59-year-old Kevin Quander with first degree murder and first degree robbery, saying he allegedly killed Charlotte Lahr of Greece while robbing her business. He credits good police work for the arrest made in less than 24 hours.
Quander was just released from prison in January after serving nine years for a 2007 robbery conviction. The murder came exactly seven weeks after he was set free.
He’ll be arraigned tomorrow morning in City Court, and District Attorney Sandra Doorley says she’ll take the case directly to a grand jury.
The crime has caused considerable concern among merchants in the Mount Hope neighborhood, some of whom are now locking their doors and letting customers in after scrutiny.
Chief Ciminelli says Goodman Section officers will meet with them or do what they must to make people in that neighborhood feel comfortable.
