Gates Police Chief James VanBrederode says the arrest of parolee John Gordon in a Rochester double homicide case is a prime example of “We told you so.”

VanBrederode heads the Monroe County Association of Chiefs of Police. He says New York’s criminal justice reform is leading to more repeat offenders.

Gordon shot and killed a man on Post Avenue in 2015 while on parole for criminal possession of a weapon. He was sentenced to seven years in prison, then was paroled in May of this year.

In September, Gordon fired at a group of people partying in an alley off Driving Park Avenue, killing two of them and wounding two more.

VanBrederode says Gordon shouldn’t have been on the streets with an illegal gun, but in jail.
