There are still many questions about a shootout yesterday evening at the new Pinnacle North Apartments on Canandaigua Lake.
The New York State Department of Corrections confirmed last night that one of its off-duty parole officers was killed in an exchange of fire with a Canandaigua police officer.
Canandaigua Police say the officer went into the apartment and there was an exchange of gunfire with another person. Apartment management said in an email to residents that they called police after getting a request to check on a neighbor and being unable to contact them.
Management let police into the apartment, the officer spoke with the individual and was then shot at. The officer returned fire and was not injured.
The Department of Corrections email called it a “tragic incident” and said it is unable to comment due to the ongoing investigation.
