New York State Park Police used a combination of high tech and low tech this week to rescue a dog who became stranded in the Letchworth Park gorge.

Police say they could hear the dog but couldn’t see it. They put up a drone and flew it through the area where they could hear the barking, off Hogsback Overlook where the gorge is about 400 feet deep and extremely steep and wooded. The drone couldn’t find the dog in the heavy underbrush, so Sgt Ryan Clancy rappelled down about 200 feet and finally found “Skippy,” the dog who had been missing from home for two days.

Sgt. Clancy and the rope rescue team hauled Skippy back up, suffering from no more than a few cuts and bruises, and he’s back home with his family.
