A man is in custody following an incident Wednesday afternoon that forced a school lockout in Palmyra.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says charges are pending against 48-year-old Michael Robinson of Newark, who was spotted by Palmyra police in a car that had been stolen from Monroe County.
When they pulled the car over the driver refused to cooperate and police believed he had a gun. They ordered three nearby Palmyra-Macedon schools to lock their doors, although the incident was not on school property. After about four-and-a-half hours, Robinson surrendered and was taken into custody. A gun was recovered. Robinson has been taken for a mental health evaluation. Nobody was hurt.
The lockout for Pal-Mac schools was lifted shortly after. Most classes went on as normal.
