Former Republican candidate for governor Carl Paladino made a lot of people upset with his controversial wish list for 2017. He was one of a number of prominent Buffalo citizens asked by the weekly newspaper Artvoice about their hopes for the new year…..and the answers he submitted said he wants to see President Barack Obama die from mad cow disease after having sex with a cow…. and the first lady “return to being a male” and occupy a cave in Zimbabwe with a gorilla.
Reporters at first doubted Paladino had actually made the comments attributed to him by ArtVoice…but he confirmed by phone call and email that yes, he did write them. He agreed to an interview only with Time Warner Cable and Buffalo’s WKBW Channel 7.
In it, Paladino said President Obama failed the coalition that elected him, doing nothing to improve education for Black children who live in Buffalo or allowing them to grow up with a piece of the American Dream.
Paladino also said President Obama divided the nation and doesn’t deserve polite treatment.
Paladino set off an uproar from Buffalo to Albany, where Governor Cuomo called his remarks an embarassment to the people of New York.
Paladino told Buffalo media he intended the comments to be funny, not racist, but the Board President says people in Buffalo aren’t taking it that way.
A long-time developer in Buffalo, Paladino sits on that city’s school board. Buffalo School Board President Barbara Seals Nevergold says a student who said the things that Carl Paladino put in ArtVoice would be suspended from school. There have been calls for him to resign.
