Rochester’s new Police Accountability Board will be housed on the first floor of the Rochester D & C Building, per a vote Tuesday night by City Council. The vote was not unanimous. It was 7-2, with Councilmembers Jose Peo and Willie Lightfoot voting “no.”

The city will sublease the office space from Gannett Media Co. It will house some 50 staff members the PAB is in the process of hiring and training to investigate complaints against the Rochester Police Department. In a statement, the D & C’s executive editor said the Democrat and Chronicle and D & C Media will not share office space with the PAB.

Criticism was raised because the city is paying more for the D & C building space than for other office space available downtown.
