Weeks of dispute over who should be the Democratic Monroe County Elections Commissioner have ended with the appointment of Jackie Ortiz. The Democratic Caucus of the Monroe County Legislature voted unanimously in favor of Ortiz. She takes office immediately, with less than ten weeks to go before the presidential election.
The Ortiz nomination stalled earlier this month after a disagreement between several Democrats who backed Lashana Boose, the acting commissioner favored by Rochester Mayor Lovely Warren. Ortiz was the choice of a majority of the Democratic Party Committee. Boose pulled her name from consideration and backed Ortiz.
Ortiz was finally approved in a special legislature meeting Thursday morning.
