Two online fundraising campaigns have raised thousands of dollars for the family of 14-year-old Michael Lynch, the Irondequoit High School freshman hit and critically injured by a car on his way to school Thursday.
Both GoFundMe campaigns were started by family friends Thursday evening. By late morning, one had raised nearly $18,000 and the other more than $7,600.
The posts say the teenager’s mother, Bernadette, has been battling cancer and the family now faces another blow.
Michael Lynch was hit by a car while crossing Cooper Road about two blocks from Irondequoit High School. He remains in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
