Court has ended for the day in the Craig Rideout murder trial…with one juror being seated so far. The judge presiding over the trial opened the jury selection process today by warning potential jurors they could be tied up with the case until August 4th.
Before a packed courtroom, State Supreme Court Judge Thomas Moran questioned a potential juror about the due date of her pregnancy, and dismissed dozens of potential jurors who said they couldn’t commit to a six week trial or didn’t think they could be impartial. Judge Moran expects it will take at least two more days to screen the 80 potential jurors.
If pre-trial news coverage makes the job of seating a jury too hard, the judge says he’ll consider a change of venue.
Laura Rideout, her sons Alex and Colin Rideout, and her boyfriend Paul Tucci are all on trial for murder and evidence tampering in Craig Rideout’s death.
