Two Rochester men have been arrested after a shooting followed by an attempt to run from police on Thurston Road early this morning.

Police were called about 12:30 a.m. for reported gunshots and given a description of a car. Officers spotted that car and tried to pull it over, but the driver hit the gas and sped away. The speeding car hit a curb and sheared off a utility pole before hitting a tree at Broad and Allen Streets.

The driver then charged at the approaching officers while reaching into his waistband, where police later found he had a gun. They subdued him, suffering minor injuries in the process.

Police say 22-year-old Rashawn Alexander of Rochester was arrested on charges including DWI, criminal possession of a weapon, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
