Two Rochester Police officers are suspended following an incident on Northampton Street earlier this month that was caught on surveillance video.
The video, uncovered by blogger Davy V, shows a young man pulling into a driveway on a dirt bike. Officers are then seen pulling him off the bike and tackling him to the ground.
Alexander Gary says he knew the officers were following him, but they never turned on their lights or siren, so he kept going until he reached his driveway. He says he suffered a shoulder injury when they tackled him. He was ticketed for riding without a motorcycle license.
Chief Michael Ciminelli says the suspension is standard practice during an investigation. The case is now being reviewed by the RPD’s Professional Standards section.
The Locust Club, the patrol officer’s union, says the facts will uphold the officers’ conduct.
