Rochester police say an officer shot and killed a man early Friday morning on the West Side.

The incident happened at the corner of Masseth and Glasser Streets. Police were first summoned by a ShotSpotter unit on Lyell Avenue near Murray Street at about 4:20 a.m. They found evidence showing multiple gunshots had been fired.

Police then spotted a vehicle they believed to be involved with the shooting on Glasser Street and stopped it. Police believed the driver was armed and multiple shots were fired at him.

Police have not said if the man was inside or outside the car when the shots were fired, nor did they say if he fired at police. The name of the deceased, a man in his 20s, has not been released.

No officers were hurt.
