A Rochester police cruiser on its way to a call crashed into a civilian car on Jay Street Friday night, injuring the officer and the driver of the other car.

Police say the officer was traveling east on Jay Street when a westbound car pulled a left turn directly in front of it near Jay and Whitney Streets. The officer was taken to the hospital for treatment. The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital. There were two passengers in that car. One was uninjured and the other ran away.

The driver of the other car was charged with driving with ability impaired by drugs.
