A teenager is reported dead after drowning Tuesday night in Oatka Creek.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says they and the Scottsville Fire Department were called with CHS Ambulance to the creek at 4792 River Road for a report of someone in trouble in the water. They found the teen had swum to the middle of the creek before he got into trouble and began to struggle. He went under the water, and multiple witnesses jumped into the water to help but were unable to rescue him.
The young man’s body was later found by fire crews, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The boy’s family arrived at the scene and was informed by deputies what had happened.
The incident is still under investigation.
