New York State’s chief administrative judge has ordered Judge Leticia Astacio to report to Rochester Administrative Judge Craig Doran’s office at 9:00 Monday morning.

Judge Lawrence Marks says in a letter to be delivered to Astacio “by hand and electronically” that her failure to report “in a timely fashion will be deemed a serious breach of your judicial responsibilities.” Judge Marks also writes that Astacio submitted no request to take leave although she’s apparently been out of the country since early March. He says that appears to be “grossly at odds with the rules of judicial conduct,” and “may constitute the voluntary abandonment of public office.”

Meanwhile, Judge Astacio sent a text to her lawyer, which he shared with local news media Tuesday evening at her request. It says she’s “living in a temple in the mountains with monks.”
