Governor Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday night that he reached a deal with President Trump that will help double COVID-19 testing in the state.
Cuomo said in an evening news conference that it would allow the state to conduct 40,000 tests a day. He said it will take several weeks to ramp up to that level.
The governor said New York will handle the testing, and the federal government will clear the international supply chain so the states can get the testing supplies they need from overseas.
Cuomo says he also made his case to the president that New York is broke because of the COVID-19 crisis and needs federal aid to balance its budget without drastic cuts in school, municipal and hospital aid.
