The operators of New York’s electric power grid say they’re ready to handle the expected summer peak for electrical use, even if we hit a long string of hot days like last year.
The New York Independent System Operator says more than 41,000 megawatts of power resources are available. The predict a peak demand of just over 33,000. New York’s record is about 34,000 megawatts, recorded after a week-long heat wave in summer of 2013.
Air conditioning puts a far greater demand on the system than winter heating requirements.
