A Rochester-based home improvement company is being sued by the New York State Attorney General for deceptive online advertising, and for failing to perform the services they promised to their customers.
Attorney General Barbara Underwood says Alvis Sprague and Sarah Crawford of A-S Contracting generated fake customer reviews on Yelp and on YellowPages.com to promote their business. A Monroe County Court judge has issued a restraining order that bars Crawford and Sprague from operating their business and freezes their assets while the lawsuit is pending.
While their self-generated online reviews gave them a five star rating, the AG’s office says Sprague and Crawford repeatedly took money for work their failed to perform, or performed in a shoddy fashion.
