The suspected Buffalo mass shooter was charged Thursday with Domestic Terrorism Motivated by Hate, the first time the new law has been used.

Payton Gendron, 18, is facing 25 charges including terrorism, 10 counts of first degree and 10 counts of second degree murder for the terrorist attack on a Tops Market in Buffalo. If convicted, the white supremacist will serve life in prison without parole. Erie County District Attorney says the law provides for no minimum sentence.

DA John Flynn said those will be his final comments on the case until after Gendron’s trial, per his belief and an agreement with the judge and Gendron’s defense team.
