Meteorologists say this now now officially Rochester’s wettest spring since 1873 and the second wettest since they started keeping records. Since March 1st, Rochester had had nearly 13 inches of rain and snow melt. That’s about seven inches above normal.
They National Weather Service put out this graph today that shows the previous record as the top line (blue) and the line below that where we’ve been this year (green). The lines are starting o converge, so we’re catching up to the historical record.
Just in the month of May we’ve had three inches of rain, which is about what we normally get for the entire month. April’s rainfall was just under five inches, more than two inches above normal. The NWS Climate Plot shows the entire past year, from last summer’s drought to this spring’s excess:
