There are more confirmed cases of the mumps at SUNY Geneseo. The college says in its latest update that 17 cases are now confirmed, 11 of them off campus and six in students living on campus.
There are no more possible cases still waiting for test results that college officials know of. The earliest date SUNY Geneseo wants to see unvaccinated students returning to campus is now January 10th. It has to be moved back every time new cases are confirmed.
The Rochester Institute of Technology also reported a case of mumps this week.
Mumps is a viral disease that causes swelling of the glands, fever and pain. Even if people have gotten the MMR vaccine, the immunity can wear off over time if they don’t get booster shots.
