The man accused of trying to murder Rochester Police Officer Denny Wright with an eight-inch knife pleaded “not guilty” today (Tues) and is being held without bail.

Keith Williams has a preliminary hearing Thursday on charges of aggravated attempted murder and aggravated assault on a police officer. He’s accused of repeatedly stabbing and seriously injuring Rochester police Officer Denny Wright. He is being held without bail and has a preliminary hearing set for Thursday.

The spectator gallery at his arraignment this morning was packed with law enforcement officers. Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary says they felt compelled to be in court to show their concern and solidarity.

Williams was previously arrested this spring for a shooting on North Goodman Street and was charged with assault, menacing and weapon charges but was free on bail. District Attorney Sandra Doorley says the case has been tough to prosecute because the victim refuses to cooperate.
