The Webster Planning Board tabled a motion to approve a commercial tomato greenhouse on Salt Road after an impassioned public hearing that drew so many people it had to be moved to a bigger building.
The board decided more research is needed before it votes on whether the greenhouse and its assorted office and packing sheds is an allowed use in an area zoned for agriculture.
Intergrow Greenhouses wants to put the facility at the corner of Salt and State Roads. It would employ about 100 people.
But the closest neighbors don’t want it and are calling for the land to remain undeveloped.
The Planning Board will keep the matter on hold at least until its next meeting on September 20th.
