Classes were canceled in the Lyons Central School District on Wednesday because of the hunt for a gunman that began the day before.
The district announced its decision in social media posts and saying it was acting out of an abundance of caution. It followed a holdup at a store early Tuesday morning in Phelps. Deputies from Wayne and Ontario counties say 28-year-old Brandon Burgess walked into a 7-Eleven Store on Route 14 with a long gun and held the place up. Nobody was hurt.
Police searched for Burgess through the day and deputies even rode on school buses and children went home just to be safe.
