Governor Cuomo and the top leaders of the State Senate and Assembly haven’t been able to reach agreement on a 2017 state budget, which was due on April 1st. So they’ve agreed to temporarily extend the current budget until May 31st to prevent a New York government shutdown.
The governor says Assembly and Senate leadership have agreed to pass the extender bill by Monday afternoon.
A statement from Governor Cuomo late Sunday night says key sticking points remain his “Raise the Age” proposal, calling for 16-and-17-year-old criminal offenders to no longer be handled in adult courts, and expanding affordable housing.
