
Assuming it clears up for the Memorial Day Weekend, you won’t find much in the way of local beaches to claim your spot in the sun
The record high water levels on Lake Ontario plus pounding waves from north winds have torn much of them away and carried the sand somewhere downstream.
The Monroe County Parks Department has worked all week to clear debris and groom what sand is left at Ontario Beach Park in Charlotte. Their work was undone by the flooding last Saturday and had to be done over again. High winds and waves today may wipe out their efforts again.
Durand Eastman Beach is gone. The water comes right up to the base of the hills with no sand left, and the paths that used to lead down to the beach now end in water a couple of feet deep.
