The owner of Nick Tahou’s restaurant took his permitting dispute with the City of Rochester to court today, arguing through his lawyer that the city was wrong to slap him with $1,200 worth of tickets at the Lilac Festival.

The home of the Garbage Plate was ticketed because the employees at his food trailer didn’t have background checks and photo ID badges. Alex Tahou says he was ticketed under the city’s food truck law, but he argues he doesn’t have a food truck…he has a trailer.

The hearing was adjourned until July 19th while the city’s lawyers examine the argument and their law.

Tahou says he was infuriated in May because out-of-town food trailers weren’t ticketed, but he was. Tahou says if he can’t get this addressed he won’t be a vendor at future city festivals.
