By a margin of more than two-to-one, New York voters think a state Constitutional Convention would be an expensive flop.

A Siena Poll finds likely voters planning to vote “no” on the so-called “Con-Con” by 57-t0-25 percent statewide. Voters said it will likely be “an expensive waste of time” rather than a chance to bring the State Constitution into the 21st Century.

More than one-third of likely voters say they’ve heard or read a good deal about the convention idea, and only 19 percent say they were unaware the issue will be on this month’s election ballot.

On the other hand, voters are strongly in favor of a constitutional amendment on the ballot to force public officers convicted of a felony related to their official duties to forfeit their state pensions. At least three-fourths of every political party and every region of the state plans to vote “yes” on that one.
