A Quinnipiac Poll finds New Yorkers almost evenly split on the issue of banning plastic grocery bags: 48 percent for, and 47 percent against.
The poll finds wide gender and racial gaps on the issue proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo. A majority of women support the bag ban…but a majority of men oppose it. The numbers are 53-44 percent for women and 50-42 percent for men.
White voters support the idea of a ban 51-44 percent, while non-white voters say “no” by nearly the same margin.
A majority of Democrats is for the ban and a majority of Republicans against it.
By a narrow 45-40 percent, New Yorkers oppose the state setting up a single payer health care system, even if it decreases health insurance costs at the same time it raises taxes.
Legalized Marijuana gets wide support, 65-31 percent. The margin is about the same from New York City through Upstate. But 54 percent say they won’t try marijuana if it’s made legal.
