New Yorkers, like Americans as a whole, are feeling better about the economy.
The New York State Index of Consumer Sentiment released by the Siena College Research Institute stands at more than 92, up by better than two points in the final quarter of 2017. That puts it well above the breakeven point at which optimism and pessimism balance. It indicates strength in the consumer marketplace and that New Yorkers are willing to spend their money.
Consumer sentiment rose by more than two points across New York towards the end of last year. Every demographic group is feeling better about the economy except for those making less than $50,000 a year. Even low income people are feeling more bullish about the economy but to a lesser degree.
