New Yorkers are losing confidence in the economy, according to a new Siena College Consumer Sentiment poll, but they remain on the positive side on how things are going.
The poll finds New Yorkers now 4.6 percent behind the national consumer index, but New York is above the break even point, indicating more people are optimistic than pessimistic.
The latest poll finds a lot of concern about the surge in gasoline prices after hurricanes hit the refining centers in Texas and Louisiana. But nearly one-out-of five New Yorkers still plans to buy a car or truck in the near future. Plans to spend on electronics and on furniture remain strong. And Poll Director Doug Lonnstrom says food prices remain a big concern.
