New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says con artists have jumped in to prey on the fears of immigrants after the election of Donald Trump.
Schneiderman has issued a fraud alert, warning immigrant communities that scammers are calling offering fake naturalization services, or telling immigrants they need to immediately send money to avoid being arrested and deported. They use caller ID spoofing to make it look like they’re calling from a U.S. government number. In one reported case they demanded $1550.
Schneiderman’s office says federal authorities will never demand immediate payment, request personal sensitive information, or threaten you over the phone.
