Rochester’s shot-spotter system alerted Rochester Police to gunfire in the 800 block of North Street early New Year’s Day…and led them to the discovery of a 19-year-old Irondequoit man who’d been shot.

The incident happened shortly after 3:00 a.m. Police say they found the man with a gunshot wound to the lower torso and he was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. His injuries were non-life threatening.

Police have no suspect in custody and continue to investigate.

Another shooting took place in Rochester on Sunday evening. Police say a 23-year-old man was shot outside the West Main Grocery at 523 West Main Street. He was taken to Strong Memorial by private car and is expected to recover.

Police also responded when one car turned left in front of another at the corner of Alexander Street and Gardiner Park early on New Year’s morning. The car that was cut off crashed into the first one, causing minor injuries to both drivers. Both were taken to Strong Memorial. Police say neither driver was driver was drunk.
