The CIty of Rochester will move forward with plans for a new police substation in the Beechwood Neighborhood, over the objections of some who will lose their homes.

City Council voted Tuesday night to build the new substation At Goodman and  Laura Streets, replacing one currently in leased space near the VIllage Gate. The new Goodman Section office is part of the city’s neighborhood policing plan. But it calls for demolishing 15 housing units, causing objections from the city’s Tenant Union.

The project is expected to cost $10 million.
