The Rochester Board of Education has hired the city’s new school superintendent. He’s Terry Dade, one of the four finalists introduced last month and currently assistant superintendent of the Fairfax County Schools in northern Virginia.
School Board President Van White said Dade understands that change can’t be accomplished by just one person and that it will take an effort by the entire community to improve Rochester’s troubled schools.
Mayor Lovely Warren said earlier that a change at the top won’t be enough to fix the city’s poor academic performance and low graduation rates. She says a complete rebuild of a broken system is what’s needed.
In Virginia, Dade is credited with turning around 12 out of 13 schools that were under state review within three years.
