The New York State Department of Education has appointed a second “Distinguished Educator” to help oversee improvement of the Rochester City Schools.
Dr. Jamie Aquino was appointed Wednesday by the State Education Commissioner. He has spent 30 years in public education and has worked in school systems from Queens to Los Angeles. He replaces Dr. Kenneth Eastwood, who was also appointed by the state but failed to reach agreement with the city school board on a contract,
Education Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia said Rochester schools face a myriad of issues that lead to low performance and graduation rates. Rochester is the next-to-last district in the state for student performance on standard tests.
