Rochester City School District officials say in a message to families that the Nathaniel Rochester Community School No. 3 was put on lockout this afternoon after a police investigation took place nearby.

Police say they had a report of a man with a gun after an unidentified man got into an argument outside the school with a young woman. A witness described seeing a gun pointed at the woman before the man ran away. Neither of these people was involved with the school.

Police swarmed over the area and conducted an extensive search while the school locked its doors. The actual alert lasted only about 15 minutes before police determined the suspect had left the area. Police continue to search for him.

The southwest Rochester school continued classes as usual, but with all outside doors locked and guarded. The district says school was dismissed at the usual time and this was only a precaution while police conducted their investigation.
