According to Renaud Lavoie from of TVA Sports, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Nathan Beaulieu has requested a trade. The 26-year-old defender is in the final year of his two-year contract he signed with the Sabres and will become a restricted free agent this summer.

Nathan Beaulieu made a trade request to the Sabres management. Not playing much and it’s a contract year.

This move isn’t a surprise when you consider that Beaulieu has had a decent season, but has been unable to remain in the lineup consistently. He’s recorded three goals and seven points in 26 games, which is nine goal and 22 point pace over 82 games. That would be a career high in goals for him, while playing limited minutes.

It’s easy to understand the frustration of a player who cannot get extended time in the lineup, especially when he’s arguably played better than a few players (Marco Scandella) when he has been in the lineup.

The Sabres acquired Beaulieu for a third-round pick back in the summer of 2017. We’ll see what move Jason Botterill makes if this report is true and what return they can get for him if they do honor the request.
