The outbreak of the mumps in Geneseo appears to have reached the Geneseo Central School District.
According to the district website, a letter has gone out to parents from Superintendent Tim Hayes confirming a case of the viral disease at Geneseo Central School. He asks that any child developing swelling of the glands around the ears or neck be kept out of school. All students should be vaccinated by state law, but the immunization can fade over time.
Mumps has been a problem this month at SUNY Geneseo. The college’s latest update says it has 19 confirmed cases, 12 off campus and seven in students living on campus.
