Mt Morris SignA Mount Morris man has been charged with felony assault and other crimes including leaving the scene of an accident after he allegedly ran down a registered sex offender with his car.

Derek Lamoy says the man threatened him, then jumped onto the hood of his car while he was trying to drive away from the confrontation.

Police in the Livingston County Village say the alleged victim was knocked down and complained of leg pain.

According to the Genesee Sun, Lamoy posted his opinions online about registered sex offenders living in apartments owned by law enforcement officers. One of those offenders confronted him about it and refused to leave his house.

Lamoy says he called 911 and tried to drive away, leading to the man either jumping on his car or being hit by the car…depending on who’s telling the story.

Lamoy then left the scene, went to a nearby gas station and called police to come get him. Police took him into custody. He’s free on bail for now.
