The Batavia mother who was accused of leaving her twins home alone before they died in a fire has pleaded guilty to one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Heather Ace was originally charged with two counts, but prosecutors said it wouldn’t matter, because she would serve both sentences together. She’ll be sentenced on May 22nd in Batavia Court. Because the charge is a  misdemeanor, she could end up paying a fine or spending up to a year in jail.

Toddlers Micah and Michael Gard were home without supervision for 90 minutes while Ace left their house on State Street last May. During that time a fire started near their bedroom.
